Strange Things: Magic, Daily Pops, & Realms

$

Hey guys! A lot of strange things have been going on in Poptropica lately.

First of all, there is a new ad popping up called Strange Magic! The ad can be found on islands such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. All you have to do to earn your prize is watch a quick video (a trailer for the movie). Girls get Fairy Wings and I assume boys get a Staff and Imp Costume. If space bar is pressed while wearing the wings, a short scene will play out where an imp will appear on screen and your Poptropican will fly.

strange magic

Other than the Strange Magic ad, the Daily Pops have also been acting strange lately. You may have noticed that sneak peeks haven’t been posted on their usual schedule. In fact, there haven’t been any new sneak peeks at all this week. The most recent image was Head Games: What’s in the box? and was uploaded on January 16. It seems to be for Galactic Hot Dogs Island, but that’s not the point. :P

daily pop 1-16-15

Even though the Daily Pop schedule is a bit off, the PHB has all of the images that have been uploaded ready for you to view! Be sure to visit out Daily Pop page for more. ;)

Lastly, be sure to check HP’s Poptropica Realms post again, if you haven’t already! Lots of stuff has been added, including some strange hats relating to biomes that can be found in Realms, Realm theme music, and a quick video tour of the updates (made by HP himself). :)

BTS - Galactic Hot Dogs

Hey everyone, and welcome back to our BTS Overview & Theory series! This time, we’ll be covering Galactic Hot Dogs Island, written by myself (Spotted Dragon), Samwow5, and HPuterpop. Be sure to check out the last BTS post, which was for Arabian Nights, Episode 2: Lair of Thieves.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW (but that’s what you want, isn’t it?)

Overview of evidence

Since there have been so many Daily Pop sneak peeks for GHD Island, we won’t list them all here, but we have listed some below. Be sure to check out our Daily Pop Sneak Peek Archive page to see them all! Remember to click on the images to enlarge them.

Time to Crate: Thank Old Man Murray for the measurement. Get Animated: Things are about to get expressionistic. Food Stand: Instead of walk and talk, walk and chomp. Hello: Is it me you're looking for? Deserted: Monument valley, this isn't. Food Court: You've got a date with deliciousness. In Between: We can fill this with our imaginations. Bounce Bounce: Dodge an asteroid or you'll be destroyed. Mushroom Kingdom: Major fungal infection. Pilot Seat: Time for your command performance. Spiderland: Good morning captain. Magic Mushrooms: These things will bounce you super high. Mega: Coming soon to a desktop near you. Intergalactic: Hot dog, this is going to be an exciting adventure! Ghost Ship: We're triangulating its position. Run to the Border: You haven't lived until you've had a street taco. Depressed: It's another one of those hot button issues. Spore: Life finds a way. Between Two Ferns: Where's the other one? Nest Egg: We were hoping for an empty nest. Belt It Out: Someone get Kuiper on the line. Eggscellent: You're a shell of your former self. Fly My Pretties: Pry open the third eye and fly. Chair Force: That's great, kid! Don't get cocky.

Let’s start out with items. Below are all the items that will be used in the quest, or at least all that we could find. They include an egg, fuel cell, fruit, gelatin salad, giant spoon, guano, map-o-sphere, the island medal, and a seed pod. What most of these items will be used for, we aren’t entirely sure, but we might be able to piece everything together later on in the post.

galacticItems

Pretty cool items, huh? Now let’s focus on scenes and dialog. Below we have included all the important scene designs for the island.

galactic hot dogs space port bts image 1 galactic hot dogs space port bts image 2 galactic hot dogs arena bts image 1 galactic hot dogs arena bts image 2 galactic hot dogs store bts image 2 galactic hot dogs barren1 bts image 2 galactic hot dogs barren1 bts image 3 galactic hot dogs barren1 bts image 1

Again, pretty cool, huh? The designs are a perfect mix of Poptropica and Galactic Hot Dogs. :)

We have the layout of the island down, but what about its storyline? Below we have put together all the important pieces of dialog and other text. Again, click to enlarge.

galactic hot dogs space port bts text 1 galactic hot dogs arena bts text 1 galactic hot dogs arena bts text 2 galactic hot dogs arena bts text 3 galactic hot dogs barren2 bts text 1

Judging by the text, we seem to start the island off in the Space Port, or at least start to meet the characters there. It also looks like we will help Cosmoe in a food truck contest among other things.

We also found a major piece of music that will be used throughout the adventure. Click here to hear it!

Before we wrap things up, since this island is based off something that is not Poptropica-related (Galactic Hot Dogs), there is of course going to be some sort of ad building for the franchise, like on Red Dragon Island (Magic Tree House), or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Those islands each have a building to promote the books. Below is an idea of what the GHD Store should have… in store for us.

galactic hot dogs store bts image 3 galactic hot dogs store bts image 4 galactic hot dogs store bts text 1 galactic hot dogs store bts image 1

Other than getting a glimpse at the GHD series, it seems like we will be able to customize the characters’ costumes too, since there will be mannequins inside.

Final Theory

In Galactic Hot Dogs Island, we will meet Cosmoe and Humphree and try to help them win the food truck contest. Along the way, we’ll run into trouble and meet Princess Dagger. We will most likely have to go around the island trying to help them perfect their Mega Dog and perhaps somehow bring peace to the galaxy. In our travels aboard the Neon Wiener spaceship, we’ll explore exotic planets, battle Jack-robots, and maybe even get to enjoy a hot dog. Maybe.

Remember, Galactic Hot Dogs Island is coming out Thursday, January 29 for members! It releases to everyone three weeks later, on February 19. To infinity and beyond!

In other Twitter-related news, a recent tweet from Poptropica reveals that they are indeed planning for a Poptropica show someday, as we’d suspected!

And finally, the PHB’s Galactic Hot Dogs Island Guide – written by our very own Brave Tomato and Blake – is now up! Speaking of GHD, the comic’s font is called Arnold 2.1 (thanks to Poptrickia for the random tidbit of info!). You can download it for free here.

Hey guys! Lots of popping news to be shared today. Mystery of the Map pages 14-16 have been released, but first, a video. It is a trailer for the entire volume of MotM.

Pretty simple, but still cool. Okay, now time for the latest pages (click to enlarge):

motm 14 motm 15 motm 16

While still on the topic of Mystery of the Map, Brave Tomato helped us learn a really cool fact about the series: of the two siblings, Mya is older than Oliver!

Hmm, I never thought about who was older. Great question BT! :)

Here are some more Q&A’s between curious Poptropicans and Poptropica itself have given us some insight on a few things regarding the Poptropica origin story and app:

  • In addition to the comics and graphic novel we’ve seen so far, Poptropica’s origin story will also be told via animation. (see tweet)
  • Mya is not in the comics because they “provide little room in which to work”. (see tweet)
  • Poptropica is working on an app for the Amazon Kindle, and hoping to release it 3 months from now. (see tweet)
  • A Windows Store app for Poptropica is not on the development plan, but they’re watching closely for an opportunity. (see tweet)

Also, PopStorm #16 is now out. This one depicts a Poptropican style bug battle. Hehe, cute. :P

Moving on, Poptropica has featured a lot of amazing Realms creations this week on Twitter, from Frozen re-constructions to unique tree designs. Great work, Poptropicans! :D

Two new ads have been popping up around Poptropica lately, one for boys and one for girls. Thanks to Prickly Monster for the tip!

Let’s start with the ad for the boys. This advertisement is for Lego Mixels, and all you have to do is click on the ad to receive a handheld Lego item: a Flamzer Scuttle, which scuttles across the screen when you press space bar.

Next up is the ad for girls. This one is for the upcoming movie, Cinderella. Again, all you have to do is watch a short video and you will earn a Cinderella costume: an Enchanted Royal Gown!

Hey guys! Quick post to announce that Poptropica Realms recently got a big upgrade of features, which we’ll be getting into soon here on the PHB. For now, you can enter the promo code GOREALMS to get your own free Realms Builder costume!

GOREALMS

Also, the Poptropica Creators officially have their own Pinterest board.

pop pinterest

Instead of Zeus being the face of their account, Master Mime (also known as Jon Pitcher, as you can see on our Creator Database page) is the star. You can view and follow it here, but unlike their other social media sites, they’re more focused on re-pinning random Poptropica things from others. (Update: They’ve started posting some of their own fun stuff, like this St. Patrick’s Day promo!)

pinterest pop

Of course Jon Pitcher also has his own Pinterest account, which has a board that features all of the Creators’ PopStorms!

Speaking of PopStorms, number 18 has been released! This one, entitled Classes of Glasses, depicts many Poptropicans with glasses that match their own style. :P

popstorm 18

Last but not least, Poptropica says they’re hoping to get their mobile app out to Kindle Fires by June 1. Great news for all the Kindlers out there!

Anyway, have a great weekend and be sure to check out other recent PHB posts for the latest happenings in the Poptropica community! :D

BTS Overview & Theory: PoptropiCon Ep. 3

BTS - Poptropicon 3

Hey everyone, and welcome back to our BTS Overview & Theory series! This time, we’ll be covering PoptropiCon Ep. 3: Reign of Omegon, written by the entire PHB staff (including myself of course). Special thanks to Brave Tomato for helping out a ton this time around. Be sure to check out the last BTS post, which was for Galactic Hot Dogs Island.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW (but that’s what you want, isn’t it?)

Overview of evidence

Before we dive into this complicated mess, we should go over the basics. Below is the official description of the episode.

Omegon has taken over PoptropiCon, and he won’t stop until he’s transformed everyone into a hench-bot. Only you can acquire the powers of the Mighty Action Force to battle Omegon and free the convention goers. Join the resistance today!

There haven’t been a whole lot of Daily Pop images for the final episode of P-Con, but do check out our Daily Pop Sneak Peek Archive page to see what we do have!

Banner Day: Let your freak flag fly.

Banner Day: Let your freak flag fly.

Let’s start off with the items we found behind-the-scenes that will be used during the quest! These items include comic178, comic367, a bow, gauntlets, an old shield, a shield, and soda.

Comic 178 Bow Gauntlets Shield Card Deck Comic 367 Old Shield Soda

They don’t tell us much, but it’s something! Maybe the comics give us insight on how to defeat Omegon and the bow, shields, gauntlets, etc. are weapons that we end up using? Maybe…

Below, you can see the layout of the theater. However, the name of this scene has been changed to the throne room, which makes what we have to say next all the more likely.

Poptropicon theater bts image 1 Poptropicon theater bts image 3 Poptropicon theater bts image 2 Poptropicon theater bts image 4

Judging by what can be seen above, the theater/throne room seems to have turned into Omegon’s base after he crashed into the convention from where we left off in Episode 2. Sadly, we don’t have a lot of dialog to go along with this scene.

Poptropicon theater bts text 1

Again, this doesn’t give us much to work with, so we will just move on. Below is the layout of the HQ.

Poptropicon hq bts image 1 Poptropicon hq bts image 3 Poptropicon hq bts image 2

In the third image above, there seems to be a portal of some-sort. As we dig deeper into the island’s secrets, this portal might start to make sense. Anyway, you might be wondering who’s HQ this is. Well, since we have already assigned Omegon’s “HQ” to the theater/throne room, this scene must be a hideout for the survivors of Omegon’s arrival. The dialog below seems to back up this theory.

Poptropicon hq bts text 1 Poptropicon hq bts text 3 Poptropicon hq bts text 2

What our character is going to do in the island is definitely becoming clear. Rescue the Mighty Action Force, collect their weapons, etc.

Next up is the Processing Room layout.

Poptropicon processing bts image 1 Poptropicon processing bts image 2 Poptropicon processing bts image 3

Based on the images above, this scene appears to be where the MAF is trapped. Of course, this means we will probably have to sneak past guards.

Poptropicon processing bts text 1

As we suspected, prisoners seem to be in this room.

Finally, we have the Menagerie layout. If you don’t already know, a menagerie is a collection of wild animals kept in captivity for exhibition. Similar to a zoo.

Poptropicon menagerie bts image 1 Poptropicon menagerie bts image 2 Poptropicon menagerie bts image 3

As well as the processing room, the menagerie looks like it will contain a prisoner or two, since there is a cell shown above. While there were multiple cells in the processing room, there is only one that can be seen in the menagerie. This could just be a coincidence, but it could also imply that this cell is special. We might get captured or it might just be the final prisoner we have to save.

Poptropicon menagerie bts text 1

Judging by the dialog, it looks like the Elf Archer will be trapped in this room. :P

That’s all for the behind the scenes files, but we can’t forget the special sneak peeks that have been released on Twitter! The following images are some of the cool sneak peeks.

Poptropicon twitter 1 Poptropicon twitter 2 Poptropicon twitter 3

They aren’t much, but they hint at a lot. The first two images seem to be the different comic books, mentioned with the other items at the beginning of this post. The comics seem to clarify that we use the MAF weapons to defeat Omegon once and for all.

Omegon’s presence in PoptropiCon brings up a lot of questions that can revolve around a story: Why is Omegon real? If Omegon had always been real, why have people not noticed until now? As a matter of fact, if he was always real, why does he look almost exactly like his newest version? If he wasn’t, what caused him to be real? Would the heroes be real too? What did bring him to a comic convention of all places? Some of these questions we’d have to delve deeper into the script to figure out, but we believe we (mostly BT :P ) have an answer to the last of those questions.

Remember at the end of Spoiler Alert (which was Ep. 2), when Omegon’s said “I have come to destroy the Mighty Action Force”? Hmm… When Spoiler Alert begins, of course, you see everyone excitedly go inside the convention center, but then the camera pans over to a spotlight featuring the silhouettes of the Mighty Action Force, pictured below.

spotlighted heroes

There might be more to this than the Creators simply playing around with the camera. It may explain how Omegon was brought here through a very drastic misunderstanding. The Mighty Action Force spotlight may have made Omegon think that the real Mighty Action Force heroes are inside the building. As a result, Omegon decided to target that place to terrorize the people inside for praising his nemeses so much.  And continue his evil plans there, because why the heck not?

Similar to PoptropiCon’s plot, did you know that a comic-book/movie villain actually hijacked a convention back in 2013? It may not be as literal as Omegon’s hijacking of his own cosplay contest, but something close to it did happen. In the San Diego Comic Con (or SDCC), over at Hall H, Marvel was promoting the movie Thor: The Dark World, which was to come later that year. Suddenly the power comes out and back on to reveal fan-favorite villain, Loki’s, actor, Tom Hiddleson, dressed and acting in character. Unlike Omegon’s serious appearance, this appearance is more so to excite the fans and have a little bit of fun. Below is a clip from the appearance.

Of course this brings up another question for PoptropiCon. Could Omegon’s appearance all be an act? This is unlikely, but we should still consider the possibility.

Final Theory

In PoptropiCon Island – Episode 3: Reign of Omegon, we’ll pick up where we left off, when the real Omegon has crashed into the convention. His goal is to transform everyone into a hench-bot and to destroy the Mighty Action Force. Your Poptropican has to save the MAF from their prison cells and retrieve each MAF member’s main weapon. By gaining knowledge about Omegon through comic books that you have gathered, you are able to combine the power of each weapon to defeat him (presumebly by breaking his Omega Crystal). Combining the weapons gives you the power to create Alphaon (however, we aren’t exactly sure what role he will play).

Remember, the final episode of PoptropiCon Island is coming out Thursday, March 19 for members (tomorrow)! It releases to everyone three weeks later, on April 9th (keep in mind that these dates may change). Be sure to get your island extras from PoptropiCon’s tour page as well. Con on! :D

Okay, let’s go over my check list… behind the scenes books? Check! Concept art? Check! An office filled with toys? Triple check!

Now, at this point, you may be super confused, but that’s perfectly fine because it will all soon be clear!

*cough* Aaaaannnyway… you may have noticed how the Creators have taken a bit of a break from posting behind the scenes awesomeness on Twitter. But just recently, the Creators have returned with some more great concept art! The first piece of behind the scenes awesomeness is some early concept art for Galactic Hot Dogs Island.

ghd concept art

The second image we have shows a bookshelf, most likely for Arabian Nights Island.

arabian nights concept art

A lot of these books seem like they would come in handy! These BTS pictures are also found on Poptropica as Daily Pops.

Last, but not least, we get a glimpse at life in a Poptropica Creator’s office.

office 1 office 2 office 3

So. Many. Collectibles. Creators, if you’re reading this, I wouldn’t mind taking a few toys off your hands. ;) Looking around, we can see t-shirts of Poptropica’s greatest super villains, a cylindrical object beside it (a Poptropica pencil case? Hard to tell!) and a Mystery of the Map poster drawn in the style of the Poptropica book covers.

Well, that’s it for now guys! Anything on the checklist that I missed? Don’t worry, check back into the PHB soon for more updates! :)

Release dates, mysterious islands, and BTS images

Hey guys! Lots of stuff on Twitter, as usual. I asked the Creators about release dates for islands, and they weren’t too specific, but we now have a general idea of when new islands are coming out! Knowing the Poptropica Creators though, the dates below could change.

At least it’s something, right? :P Just to recap: Mystery of the Map Island is planned for May for members, and June for everyone. Arabian Nights Ep. 3 comes out around July.

Now, the islands in the tweets above aren’t the only ones in our future. The Creators want your opinion on some mysterious new designs for a mysterious new island. Remember, nothing is official yet, so the island might not even come out!

mysterious island 2 mysterious island 1

Seems like their idea somehow relates to jail, judging by the police officers, inmates, and canines (“K9″, heh) above. Hopefully we will have more info on the island soon!

Moving on to different islands, we also have two other behind the scenes images from Twitter.

man-baby old fort

The first image shows a, uh, man-baby of sorts… *cough* and the other shows on old fort on a tropical island. These pictures are most likely for Arabian Nights Island and Mystery of the Map Island respectively. Post any ideas you have about how the man-baby relates to the island below! :)

Last, but not least, we have PopStorms 24 & 25! #24 is basically the creativity of a Poptropica Creator, and #25 was posted with the caption: “This character has Poptropica eyes and loves ding dongs.” :P

Hall of Fame Winner: Lazy Pelican!

Hey Poptropicans! I know I haven’t been too active lately, but since summer is finally here I hope for that to change! And yes, that means more BTS posts! :D

Anyway, let’s get straight to the point. The second Poptropican for the Hall of Fame has been selected! As the title of this post indicates, that Poptropican is… Lazy Pelican!

hall of fame lazy pelican

“Lazy Pelican hails from Germany, and collected four Island Medallions last week in her successful bid for glory.” Whether that means she only has 4 medallions, or has more but is noteworthy for managing to snag 4 more this week is unclear from the post, but we asked Poptropica on Twitter and they’ve replied to confirm it’s the latter:

Anyway, if you missed out on the first Hall of Fame winner, go to our post on Dangerous Glove, who now is a guest on Night Watch Island.

Meanwhile, Lazy Pelican is now on the Main Street of Game Show Island.

As Captain Crawfish said, “Is that really a reward?” I’m not sure… :P

And unfortunately, these Hall of Fame winners are replacing non-player characters (NPCs) that used to be on these Main Streets – Brave Tomato notes that Lazy Pelican now takes the place of what was formerly a girl NPC from whom she got her iconic pink star shirt from.

Another interesting note from PHB commenter Fairy Tale: She doesn’t show up for those who have already completed Game Show Island, since humans are no longer slaves to robots after the quest.

Anyway, you can brush up on the rules of the Hall of Fame (if you need to) and see if you get selected!

Until next time! ;)

Yes, that time has come. The last Hall of Fame winner is here! As you can tell by the title, the winner is… Sneaky Bear! Her Poptropican is only 9 days old but has already finished 21 islands.

Well, the Hall of Fame is now over, but the Creators say that “the doors of the Poptropica Hall of Fame may one day open again.” This graphic from the Poptropica front page, showing all the winners, congratulates the “2015 winners” – suggesting that they may bring this back in the coming years.

Seven Islands become members only!

$

Okay… so I got some bad news, guys. Remember the whole Nabooti demo thing and how Nabooti Island is only for members now? Well, more islands have joined the members only club.

7reasons

There may be over 40 islands, but now 7 of those islands are exclusive for members. The seven islands are all sponsored islands (islands that are based on a franchise/not completely original), with the exception of the more recent Galactic Hot Dogs Island, which isn’t on the list:

Non-members can still play a demo of each island, but nothing beyond that. With Timmy Failure Island coming up, we have to wonder if that will eventually be locked to members only as well, since it’s also a sponsored island.

Yes, what we have feared is true. I just hope Poptropica won’t become completely membership oriented. :( Let us know in the comments what you think!

Final Theory

Before diving into our theory on how the quest will play out, we first need to know our characters… Timmy Failure is a young child that believes that he is a world class detective. He has a pet “business partner” polar bear named Total that somehow followed the scent of Timmy’s cat food back to his apartment. His parents are divorced, and he lives with his mom, who dates a “Bowling Turkey”. His best friend, who he claims to be an idiot, is named Rollo Tookus and is actually an over achieving student. Molly Moskins is a girl in Timmy’s class who has a crush on him and smells of tangerines. She also owns a cat named Senior Burrito. Finally, Corrina Corrina is Timmy’s arch nemesis (at least in his opinion).

Looking at the dialog, Senior Burrito (the cat) has stolen Timmy’s pants and is hiding in a vending machine. To get them out, you’ll need some loose change to activate the machine. The Bowling Turkey challenges you to a match of bowling, and when you win, he’ll give you the keys to his car. From there, we couldn’t really follow much more of the plot using the dialogue, but it looks to be quite a lengthy island.

Remember, Timmy Failure Island is going to be out for members on September 17th, so until then, share your theories in the comments below! :D

Hey guys, Spotted Dragon here! Long time no post! I’ll hold off on the whole sorry, school, work, life, etc. speech. Let’s just get right to it. :P

Well, the Creators just added a cool new feature to the game, specifically on Home Island. What is this great new feature you ask? The title of this post says it all: a photo booth! Upon visiting the island, you can find the photo booth next to the Shop. Thanks to Ultimate iPad Expert for the all the pictures!

PhotoBooth1

Once inside, you will be greeted by a panel of buttons on the left of your screen. They are all labeled in the picture below.

PhotoBooth2

The best part about the photo booth is that you can change the entire scene all on your own, including the characters, props, backgrounds, and more! You can either start from scratch, or edit a pre-made template.

PhotoBooth3

And don’t worry… the photo booth is available for everyone! So what are you waiting for? Go to Poptropica now to try it out for yourself. It’s right on Main Street of Home Island (also called Hub or Tutorial Island).

Photo Booth - Mixtape

Yeah, this is me showing off my mixtape (which is on fire btw). Other than my amazing photo, check out other creations from some of the other PHB authors below!

fishy photo ChillinOnPoptropica CPz-EinUEAAKgpq CP1WX19WIAAvc4z

I don’t know about you guys, but I really liked this update. However it’s still new, so I hope more tools get added, such as being able to add your friends to the picture, an undo button (although the trash button works well for deleting props), a way to add unique text, etc.

So what do you think about the photo booth? Share your thoughts (and pics!) below!

MyPlaceInPoptropica-SD

Okay, so just like my fellow PHB authors, I’m going to be sharing my Poptropica Origin Story, or My Place in Poptropica (probably not going to be too intriguing though).

Now, I’m not one to remember the dates of important events, so just know that I’m trying my best to remember everything. :P

Anyway… *clears throat* I’m Spotted Dragon.

hi

2009: Bye-Bye Penguins, Hello Poptropicans

When I was in elementary school, I mainly played Club Penguin. This was most likely sometime in 2009. I would meet up with friends and chat online for as long as possible, but I just wasn’t getting anywhere in the game. Without membership, I felt very restricted, no matter how much fun I had.

Then, Poptropica came into my life around 1st or 2nd grade. Some friends of mine in 5th grade were talking about this “cool online game” on the bus. Of course, being in 2nd grade, I thought that all the 5th graders were really cool and must have great opinions. After I joined the conversation, I learned more about the game, including its name… Poptropica. :) Once I got home, I immediately went to my computer the check it out: Poptropica.com. Now at this point, I was oblivious to the Creators’ Blog, Daily Pops, etc. All I was focusing on was the gameplay.

So… I just made an account! The name “Spotted Dragon” popped up and I didn’t know how to change it, so I just went with it. If I remember correctly, I chose a black skirt, a purple shirt with a peace sign on it, and short brown hair with a purple headband. I landed on Early Poptropica and basically explored that one island for the rest of the night. I wasn’t really sure what to do, so I just started clicking everything that was clickable.

Being new to the game, it took me a couple hours to get the hang of things and complete the island… especially since I was terrified of that giant spider. XD Still, I had tons of fun and couldn’t wait to try out more quests! The only problem was that my brother was always hogging the computer and I was only 8 or 9, so my problem-solving skills weren’t amazing.

2010-2011: Poptropica Help for 25¢

I quickly became addicted to Poptropica and I completed almost every island. With the last couple islands I needed to beat, I looked up random video guides for help (often Thinknoodles). I spent a lot of time gathering credits because my goal was to buy everything possible in the Poptropica Store, starting with the vampires, since they look the coolest. I was also still oblivious to the Creators’ Blog, the PHB, and even the DailyPop. I have honestly no idea why.

Anyway, right around the time I was mastering the game, everyone else in my class started to love the game too. For the kids who weren’t familiar with the game, I offered to help them create an account and taught everyone the basics during our class’ free time. Since I did this, I kinda became known for my Poptropica knowledge.

Now, I’m not exactly sure how I pulled this off, but I convinced people to play me 25 cents for help on finishing islands. If their problem was too difficult to just explain, they would give me 50 cents, along with their login info, and I would beat the island myself. I don’t know why in the world people would trust me, a 9-year-old, with their account. Now you might be wondering: why didn’t people just look up walkthroughs like you did? Well kids, believe it or not, the world wasn’t always surrounded by technology. 9-year-olds didn’t have smartphones and most of us had very limited computer time.

Sadly, Poptropica began to fade after awhile, slowly becoming less and less popular. Heck, even I will admit that I would go a month or two without logging on. I still had hope it wouldn’t just be a one hit wonder, though.

2011-2012: The PHB Fangirl

After our school system banned Poptropica for no apparent reason, the few people that still played Poptropica pretty much stopped caring. Except for me obviously! However, being up to date on all the islands could get kinda boring.

I eventually got super bored with Poptropica, but I didn’t just want to give up on it like I did with Club Penguin, even though none of my friends were interested anymore. So, I figured the internet would help me with my crisis! With a quick google search of “Poptropica,” I came across the Poptropica Help Blog. In fact, it was the first result after Poptropica itself! I instantly loved it and checked back every day. Not knowing much about WordPress, I didn’t comment, follow, or make a WP account the blog until a while later.

When I first started participating in the community, I simply started commenting. I didn’t even have an actual profile. I think my first comment started out by saying something really cheesy, like “long time viewer, first-time commenter.”

Ever since I started commenting, I knew I wanted to be an author on the PHB. Although I always tried not to ask for the position, since I saw so many fans ask and get turned down. I knew that if Fishy wanted to add me to the team, then she would.

Anyway, the PHB inspired me to create my own site in 2012, which I still run today: Adventure Time Pop (be sure to check it out by the way ;) ). Plus, having a blogging experience would boost my chances at a job. It may be an odd mashup, but back then all I wanted was to make my blog unique, so I just thought of my two favorite things at the time: Adventure Time and Poptropica. Which, still are two of my favorite fandoms in the world.

Moving on to the PHB’s 2012 Halloween Costume Contest! I was exhilarated to find that my entry had won!!! Fast forward to 2013, where another entree of mine had won! Next up is 2014… and I won again! I just wanted to mention this because it really boosted my spirits and really encouraged me to stay a part of the community. :D

2013: Internet Friends

Shortly after making the ATP, I discovered, even more, Poptropica blogs and decided to expand my blogging skills. The amazing Silver Wolf added me to her blog: Poptropica Tips for Poptropicans, which I still am a part of today. I joined a few other sites over the years, but none of them really stuck with me.

Suddenly, I felt like I was actually well known throughout the string of Poptropica fansites. I was meeting a lot of awesome people! For example, HPuterpop contacted me with some Adventure Time Pop fan art, back when he was still a newbie. I also got in touch with Samwow5 and helped him out with his site.

Anyway, I eventually joined Google+ to be in one of HP’s live stream (where I was sick, so… yay). Well, Google+ is where I really got to know some of my best online friends, like Brave Sky, Cool Smarticle, etc. They helped to put a smile on my face and (even though I’m terrible at conversations and socializing in general) I knew I could always talk to them. Of course, I’m also leaving out a ton of my friends so please don’t feel excluded! :P

2014: Dream Come True

Okay, let’s get to the big moment… It was around August of 2014 (whoa, that’s a pretty long time…) when I got the email. Something like “Well, I think it’s about time… Join the PHB?” I don’t know, something like that. :P

As you probably guessed, I freaked. Eyes wide, jaw dropped, speechless. Of course, I accepted right away!!! Who wouldn’t? Don’t worry, I won’t relive my freakout here. Part of me felt like this invitation was totally unexpected, but the narcissist in my was just like “FINALLY!”

Wow, this is such a long post…

*clears throat* I started posting as soon as I could and I made sure to triple check everything I wrote (looking back at my first post… cringe). I didn’t want to make a single mistake. Of course, that doesn’t stop Fishy from rewording my sentences here and there.. ;)

Still, I wanted to stand out and make the PHB a better place. HP had been teaching me the basics of Poptropica’s coding, so I convinced him and Sam to start up a BTS series with me. It has formed into the amazing BTS Overview & Theory series that you know and love today, with the whole PHB team, but just remember who’s running the show. ;) *cough cough*

2015: The Present and Beyond

The post is wrapping up, so just stick with me a little longer.

If you guys still don’t know me that well, feel free to check out my Gravatar page, which has links to all the other sites I’m on. I spend a ton of time on DeviantArt and would love to get to know more Poptropicans. I’m a huge fangirl with too many fandoms to count who loves art, reading, soccer, music, and a ton of other stuff. I’m currently 13 years old (almost 14… being one of the younger bloggers can get annoying) and I hope to be a part of the PHB team for a very long time. :)

Without Poptropica and this entire online community, I have absolutely NO IDEA what my life would be like today. Seriously, it takes up a ton of my time that hasn’t already been devoted to homework (which isn’t a bad thing, trust me). Blogging, although sometimes stressful (mostly due to my procrastination and busy schedule), has really improved my life. Even if I’m not your favorite PHB author, I really hope that you can tolerate and maybe even enjoy my posts because I love each and every one of you. :D

I am absolutely honored to be a part of the PHB’s future. I hope that I will be able to see the entire community continue to grow and thrive. I have been so lucky to have played a part in the PHB’s first award ceremony, many live streams, stories, art, etc. The accomplishments made on the Wiki have also been extraordinary, even though I didn’t play a big part in them.

Before I end this post, I’d like to take a moment to thank all my fellow authors who have welcomed me to their team, including authors that are no longer with us (they aren’t dead, though, don’t worry). I’d also like to thank the other bloggers that I’ve interacted with over the years, even if we haven’t always seen eye-to-eye. Finally, I can’t leave out the amazing artists I’ve met on DeviantArt. *cough* Wow, I’m making it seem like I won a huge award. Well, I should end this before it gets too sappy.

I’m Spotted Dragon, aka SydVC, and this is my story. My Place in Poptropica. ;)

bye
